International health leaders gather in Dublin to discuss integrated primary care

International leaders from the UK, Ireland and the US are meeting for a two-day symposium in Dublin (30 April – 1 May 2018) to share best practice and push forward the transformation agenda of primary and integrated care.

The International Accountable Care Symposium is the second meeting of the International Faculty for Primary Care to look at the evidence and share experiences in delivering integrated care.

They will build on their findings from their meeting in Washington in May last year which resulted in the publication Providing accountable care: Comparing the delivery of primary care in the UK and USA through accountable care systems and organisations.

The faculty includes Dr James Kingsland OBE, President of the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC), Dr Nav Chana, NAPC Chair, Chris Goodey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Association of General Practitioners in Ireland (NAGP) and from the US – Dr Paul Grundy, Global Director for Healthcare Transformation, HealthTeamWorks and Ann Greiner, President and CEO, the Patient-Centred Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC).

Chris Goodey said: “The NAGP and the European Association of Primary Care Partners are delighted to be included in this international symposium on integrated care and honoured that Dublin has been selected as the location for the second meeting”.

Implementation of integrated care is at the early stages in the UK with the first wave of integrated care systems (ICSs) launched in 2017. NAPC’s primary care home model is a new care model supported by NHS England which is being used as a building block for some of the ICSs.

The findings from the symposium will be announced at the Health + Care Show at London’s Excel at the end of June.
