Toronto (June 18, 2018) — NexJ Health Inc. (“NexJ Health”), a provider of patient-facing solutions for population health management, today announced that Dr. Paul Grundy, MD, MPH, FACOEM FACPM will be joining the team as a Senior Fellow.

Dr. Grundy, the “Godfather” of the Patient Centered Medical Home movement and member of the Institute of Medicine, is currently the Global Director of Healthcare Transformation at HealthTeamWorks, a Denver-based organization committed to supporting quality improvement in healthcare practices, groups and networks nationwide and abroad. At HealthTeamWorks, Dr. Grundy leads strategies that support healthcare transformation initiatives, which include fostering robust primary care models and championing for patients.

Prior to HealthTeamWorks, Dr. Grundy served as Chief Medical Officer and Global Director of Healthcare Transformation at IBM, where he developed and executed strategies directed towards shifting healthcare delivery around the world towards patient-centred, primary-care systems based on the premise that care should be guided and led by a ‘familiar physician’, with the trusted physician-patient relationship at the core of it.

As a Senior Fellow to NexJ Health, Dr. Grundy will play an important role in championing the vision of person-centred, patient-facing technologies as being foundational to health system transformation on a national and a global level.

“We are thrilled and honoured to have Dr. Grundy join our team and support our efforts for global healthcare transformation,” said William M. Tatham, Executive Chair of NexJ Health. “He shares our mission and vision of the need for comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centred care and will play an integral role in expanding NexJ Health’s market into the US and globally.”

Dr. Grundy is the Founding President of the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative, a not-for-profit multi-stakeholder membership organization dedicated to advancing an effective and efficient health system built on a strong foundation of primary care and the patient-centered medical home.

“NexJ shares in the vision and mission that I envisioned when working to form the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative, which developed and brought validity to the medical home model approach,” said Dr. Grundy. “The medical home is a central concept of care delivery transformation; it was built on the foundation of technology with security, information access, and analytics informing population health segmentation and management – and that is where NexJ comes into play: an organization with game-changing technology to address care models and champion for patients. NexJ really has the secret sauce to engage the patient.”

Prior to working at IBM, Dr. Grundy worked as a senior diplomat in the US State Department supporting the intersection of health and diplomacy. He worked extensively in the International AIDS Pandemic, including writing the United States’ first piece of legislation addressing AIDS Education in Africa. He has won awards too numerous to mention, including the Defense Superior Service Award for outstanding service addressing HIV/AIDS, four Department of State Meritorious Service awards for outstanding performance in the Middle East and Africa, The Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and more recently, the prestigious 2016 Barbara Starfield Primary Care Leadership Award for his life’s work and dedication to the transformation to the medical home model of care.

Dr. Grundy will continue to serve as a director of the ACGME, the body responsible for accrediting graduate medical training programs. He is a Healthcare Ambassador for the Nation of Denmark and adjunct professor at the University of Utah Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and University of California San Francisco Department of Family and Community Medicine. He has co-authored both “The Familiar Physician: Saving Your Doctor in the Era of Obamacare” and “Lost and Found: A Consumer’s Guide to Healthcare”.
